The Rev Darrick Jackson joined us as Consulting Minister in July 2009. He describes his call to ministry as “helping others find the center of their faith, and to use that center as a guiding post in their lives.” Rev. Darrick is a theater and visual artist, and has a passion for Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
Rev. Darrick grew up in Michigan in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He graduated with honors from Purdue University with a degree in Audiology and Speech Pathology. After graduation, he worked in professional theater, which brought him in Boston, MA. He has also worked as a braille transcriber and in non-profit management.
While living in Boston, Rev. Darrick discovered Unitarian Universalism and quickly became involved in the church. He eventually discovered a call to ministry and entered seminary at Andover Newton Theological School. In 2007, he graduated and was ordained at the First Parish in Watertown, his internship church.
After Andover Newton, Rev. Darrick spent a year at the Unitarian Universalist Association as the Assistant Youth Ministries Director and then a year at Boston University School of Theology as the Admissions Officer. He has also been involved with the Healing Moments Alzheimer’s Ministry, which. uses spirituality and theater arts to enhance the lives of people with Alzheimer’s and the lives of their families, and caregivers.
Rev. Darrick lives in Meriden, CT with his husband Jim, a United Church of Christ minister, and two cats, Oberon and Diva.
